Daimler Armoured Car

Detail

One of the finest armoured fighting vehicles of the Second World War, the Daimler Armoured Car was a rear engine-mounted vehicle with 4-wheel drive, independent suspension and a 5-speed select gearbox.

Used by the recce troops of armoured regiments as well as by recce regiments, the vehicle had the useful feature of a rear-facing steering station, enabling it to get out of trouble in a hurry. Its cross-country performance was enhanced by being completely smooth underneath, allowing it to slide over small obstacles.

The Daimler was used extensively in all theatres of war and remained in service for many years thereafter.

With a 2pdr gun and 16mm amour its level of firepower and protection were on a par with early wartime cruiser tanks.
