Battle Honours

The Regiment can trace its roots back to 1685 and to this day has been awarded 173 Battle Honours.

What happened on a battlefield is often difficult to ascertain, for both participants and historians. The greater number of accounts, the greater the potential for confusion.

This is because of the inherent chaos associated with any rapid, violent actions, but also because of the diverse recording of it in the aftermath, tailoring their accounts to the perceived needs of their audiences.

Memories of dramatic events tend to shift and merge with others that the author has been told or has read.
