Jack died on 10 May 1995.

He joined the 3rd King’s Own Hussars in August 1938, while they were stationed at Tidworth. In April 1939 he joined the 7th Queen’s Own Hussars as a reinforcement who, at that time, were in Cairo.

He only spent 18 months with them before being posted to the 1st Royal Tank Regiment. In September 1943 he transferred to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, leaving the Army in August 1946. He re-enlisted in February 1948 and served in various workshops and depots, including four months with the 17th/21st Lancers in 1951.

After a career with numerous ups and downs as regards rank, he left the regular Army in June 1960. He joined the SAS Territorial Army. 23 SAS Regiment, in July 1962, was made WO2 in August 1962 and left the TA in July 1964. In September 1993 he came back into the fold.

At that time he was an in-pensioner at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea and remained there until his death.
