75 Years of the 8th Hussars in Korea

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the 8th Hussars’ service in Korea, and as part of Heritage Open Days 2026, we will be taking a deep dive into the Regiment’s experiences and actions during the Korean War.

We have been particularly fortunate to have Lt Henderson, a serving QRH Officer spending time at the Museum researching and preparing for the talk. He has been delving into our archive and reserve collection to uncover original photographs, documents, maps and other fascinating material, which will all help to bring the story of the 8th Hussars in Korea to life.

Lt Henderson will be creating a detailed presentation using this material, giving us the opportunity to explore not only the wider campaign but also the individual stories and experiences behind the surviving historical record.

He has also been working closely with one of our wonderful volunteers, John Bagley, whose father and uncle both served in Korea with the 8th Hussars. We are incredibly grateful to both of them for the time and effort they have put into researching and preparing what we hope will be a fascinating evening.

It would be wonderful to see as many people as possible come along to support all their hard work!

The evening includes:

The talk forms part of Heritage Open Days 2026, running from 11–20 September and celebrating England’s history and culture.

Stories can relate to, but are not limited to:

* your experiences whilst serving;
* family life, home or overseas;
* places you enjoy visiting;
* or, photos of 5 objects that mean something to you and tell the story of who you are.

Your stories will be used as inspiration for future exhibitions, or even feature in the “articles” section.

You can send your entries in a range of formats such as photographs, artwork, drawings, in writing or via a short video.
