Keeping the Peace
Despite their awesome combat ability the Hussars have frequently been called upon to undertake the role of Peace Keeper for the United Nations or the Nation.
They have had to act with restraint to maintain peace and restore order in sensitive situations such as Bosnia, Kosovo, Northern Ireland and Aden.

The Aden Emergency (1963-67) was an insurgency against British rule in the south of the Arabian Peninsula.
The unrest hastened British plans for withdrawal and marked the end of 20 years of decolonisation.

Terrorist Catapult.
A homemade catapult and various missiles, as used in Northern Ireland during ‘The Troubles’. The conflict in Northern Ireland was generally referred to in Ireland during its course as ‘The Troubles’ – a euphemistic folk name that had also been applied to earlier bouts of political violence.

Flack Jacket.
A flak jacket or flak vest is a form of body armour. A flak jacket is designed to provide protection from case fragments (“frag”) from high explosive weaponry, such as anti-aircraft artillery (“flak” is a German contraction for Fliegerabwehrkanone, “aircraft-defence gun”), grenades, some pellets used in shotguns and anti-personnel mines, and other lower-velocity projectiles.
It is not designed to protect against bullets fired from small arms such as rifles or handguns.

The 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars arrived in Korea as part of the 29th British Infantry Brigade on the 14th of November 1950, and were sent south to Seoul where the Allied forces were already in retreat from the Chinese.

The Malayan Emergency was a guerrilla war fought in the Federation of Malaya from 1948 until 1960.
The conflict was between Commonwealth armed forces and pro independence fighters of the Malayan National Liberation Army, the military wing of the Malayan Communist Party.
