‘B’ Squadron, 3rd Hussars – The ‘Java’ Squadron
Chronological Order of Events for 1942
In January 1942, ‘B’ Squadron Leader was called to the C.O.’s office and told that one squadron of 3rd Hussars of full strength was to be dispatched to Cairo immediately – future destination unknown.
Immediately after the capitulation the British and Australian troops stayed in their units beside the roads.
Captain J.M. Bentley-Taylor, M.C. of the 3rd The King’s Own Hussars kept a meticulous diary of his time commanding ‘B’ Squadron when they were prisoners of war of the Japanese in Java.
Capt Walter Fry served as a Sgt in the 3rd Hussars. He died sometime during 1953.
Capt W. McC. Cliffe served in the 3rd Hussars. He died on the 5th of May 1954.
Maj M. Hutton-Wilson served in the 3rd Hussars. He died on the 28th of December 1955.
Capt H.J. Levander served in the 3rd Hussars. He died sometime during 1955.
Tpr J. Grant served in the 3rd Hussars. He died on the 12th of July 1955.
Tpr E Gibbons served in the 3rd Hussars. He died on the 25th of May 1956.
