Sydney Faggetter enlisted as a Private in 4th Queen’s Own Hussars on the 14th of March 1906.

On the outbreak of the First World War, the 4th Hussars were stationed at the Curragh in Ireland.
Sir, – I have the honour to report that I have as good as passed my Regular Commissions Board, in as much as the eventual result is in the bag.
Here we have a patrol of light cavalry, in the presence of a similar and somewhat stronger body of the enemy, exchanging shots while acting on the defensive.
Colonel Steve joined the 4th Hussars after graduating from Cambridge in 1931.
John Colbeck joined the Territorial Army in 1930 and was commissioned in November 1939.
