In April 1944 this officer was appointed second in command of a mission to organise resistance in the CHALONS-REIMS area.
On 20 Jan 45, 22 Armd Bde were ordered to pass through 7 Armd Div and advance on MONTFORT.

Throughout the period of operations in the Western Desert Major DS Cripps, by his gallantry and devotion to duty was a constant inspiration to the officers and men under his command.
During the absence of the CO, Lt Col Byass, Major Shepard commanded 7th Hussars from 5/2/41 to 12/2/41 which period included the final decisive battle of BEDA FOMM.
The advance of the 7th Hussars during 9th December was so well directed by Lt Col Byass that the left flank of the 4 Armd Bde was assured at an early hour.
On 26th June 1944 Lt.Col FARQUHAR played a predominant part in an attack by 17th Indian Infantry Brigade NE of RIPA.
