17 April 1945, the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars continues the Advance North East.

In the photo above, Sgt Ron Hearn and his crew of RECCE Troop pose in front of a knocked-out 88mm in Wietzendorf, two crew members are armed with captured German pistols.

The Germans were still fanatical and continued fighting even when it was obvious that their cause was lost.

The 8th Hussars met with stiff resistance in every town, hamlet and naturally defended area, anti-tank guns and 88mm were easily concealed and a number were engaged and destroyed in the Fallingbostel /Wiesendorf area.

The 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars would continue their advance to contact on route to Hamburg.
