On Thursday the 1st of October 2026, the Museum launched its new exhibition, ‘Brave Tails: Animals Who Served’, celebrating the service of animals throughout military history.

The exhibition was officially opened by the Mayor of Warwick, Cllr Simon Pargeter, who described it as “a fitting tribute to the bravery, loyalty and service of these remarkable animals.”

The Mayor explored the exhibition, including the beautiful Richmond Purple Poppies, which commemorate animals that have served in conflicts around the world.

Visitors also had the opportunity to meet Donald and Doffy, as well as Radar, a retired police dog representing Hero Paws, a charity supporting retired military and service dogs and their veterans. Radar proved particularly popular with visitors throughout the afternoon!

The launch included crafting activities and an evening talk by Sarah Booth, organiser of the Richmond Purple Poppies Tour, sharing stories of the extraordinary animals and birds that have served in war and conflict. Members of the Donkey Breed Society’s West Region also joined us for the evening.

Curator Andy Milton said: “As our Museum is based on cavalry heritage with an overall theme from ‘Horses to Tanks’, the Richmond Purple Poppies Tour’s fantastic display is incredibly appropriate. The exhibition highlights the importance of animals in war and their contribution, carried out in some of the most appalling conditions.”

‘Brave Tails: Animals Who Served’ is on display until 29 November 2026.
