On Tuesday, Dec 16, the Regt. ‘B’ Ech. was heavily bombed from a low altitude.
Tpr Browne ran immediately to a nearby Bren gun which was posted in the open, and engaged the aircraft.
He and the gun were twice knocked down by the blast of the bombs. He got up and mounted the gun each time single handed and continued to fire until the aircraft had passed.
Tpr Browne showed great coolness and devotion to duty and his conduct was a fine example to all ranks.
