This NCO was captured during the battle of CRETE, after twenty minutes he succeeded in eluding the guard and took to the hills where he remained at liberty for a year, assisting other stragglers and greatly assisting in keeping up the morale until he was evacuated with another party which he organised.
Immediately after his arrival in this country he volunteered to return to CRETE and guide a party of saboteurs to MALEME aerodrome, landing from a submarine and guiding across very rough and dangerous country.
The mission successfully accomplished, he guided the party back and embarked them aboard the submarine in very bad weather and the party reached ALEXANDRIA without loss of a man.
