On completion of Training Barny was posted to the Regimental Band of The 8th KRI Hussars, who at that time was attached to The 6th RTR at Tidworth whilst The 8th Hussars were fighting in Korea.

On the regiment’s return, he embarked to BAOR in March 1952 and spent the rest of his service in Luneburg as a Clarinet Player in the Regimental Band.

Barny was quite a happy-go-lucky type and was a keen sportsman, being a very good goalkeeper.

On completion of service in February 1954, he was posted to The RAC Depot for a resettlement course and released to the Army Reserve.

After release, Barny settled in Knottingley, West Yorkshire with his wife Mary and worked as a machine operator.

He died in February 2010.
