Sean Darley died in Dublin on the 5th of April 1980. He was just 42. The news was received first with disbelief and then with profound shock by his many friends and contemporaries.

Sean joined the 4th Hussars in 1957 in Germany as a National Serviceman and became a regular officer in 1960.

He then served in Aden, Malaysia, Singapore, and Wolfenbuttel before retiring in 1968.

Thereafter he lived first in Portugal and then at his home in County Wicklow where those of us who had been privileged to stay were right royally entertained.

Those who served with him in the Regiment will have many fond memories of Sean, not least of his lazy smile and dry sense of humour. He was always quick to lighten any gloom that may temporarily have been prevailing.

Sean was first married to Bunty and was about to marry again when he was struck down. To his mother and to Ann and her children go our deepest sympathy in their tragic loss.
