John died on 1 November 1986.
He joined the 8th Hussars in December 1929 whilst they were in Aldershot, moving with them to Hounslow in 1933.
He remained with them until January 1936, when he was transferred to the Reserve.
He was recalled in 1939 for service with the 3rd Hussars.
He joined the Green Howards’ TA in 1948, staying with them until 1960, by which time he had long attained the rank of WO2.
From 1961 until 1972 he served with the Army Cadet Force.
He remained an 8th Hussar at heart through all this and maintained contact with the Association right up until the end.
