John was born in 1927 and joined the Army in August 1945.

He was in Intake 1A at Sandhurst and joined The 3rd Hussars in Germany as a Troop Leader in ‘B’ Squadron. He subsequently completed the Signal Instructors Course at Bovington.

He returned to the Regiment as Signals Officer, a role he combined with that of Editor of the Regimental Journal.

He remained in the Regiment briefly after amalgamation, serving on the staff of HQ 22 Armoured Brigade (TA) and retired in August 1960.

He subsequently took up an appointment as a starter with the Jockey Club, operating mainly at courses in the South East.

He died in early 2007.
