Harry joined the 4th Queen’s Own Hussars in February 1932, leaving them for the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars in November 1935 who at that time was stationed in Egypt.

He stayed with them until August 1938 when he took his discharge.

He was recalled in June 1939 and posted briefly to the 3rd Queen’s Own Hussars.

He rejoined the 8th Hussars in September 1939 and remained with them until July 1944.

He took part in the Palestine operations and the majority of the Western Desert battles.

He returned to the UK in May 1945, and later he was with the Control Commission for Germany.

He was released in February 1946.
