‘Tim’, Cpl HG Martin, of Winchcombe, Glos, who died recently, served in the 8th KRI Hussars from early 1943 until the end of the hostilities.

As a member of ‘B’ Squadron, he was in a Cromwell crew commanded by the late John Meade, then Captain and Second-in-Command of ‘B’ Squadron.

A well-liked NCO, Tim was one of the contingents of personnel posted to 8H in Cyprus from the 2nd Royal Gloucestershire Hussars when that unit was disbanded while stationed near Alexandria.

He had served in ‘H’, the Cheltenham Squadron, from 1939 and went with the unit, part of 22nd Armoured Brigade, to the Eighth Army in 1941, taking part in some of the major battles in that year and in 1942.

He is sadly missed by his wife Barbara and family, and by his comrades in the Cheltenham area whom he served in both 2RGH and 8H.
