Reggie died on 20th March 1986 in a tragic road accident near Portrush where he lived.

He joined the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars in Luneburg in February 1958 and, being posted to ‘C’ Squadron, stayed in the same squadron during the tours of Aden, Persian Gulf, Malaya and Borneo finally leaving the Regiment in Wolfenbuttel in 1966.

Reg was one of the five Patton brothers who all served together at one stage of the Regiment’s tour of the Far East.

He was also an officer in one of HM Prisons in Northern Ireland, and a member of the Royal British Legion, both of which, along with some 30 old comrades, were represented at his funeral in Bushmills.

Reggie was a great friend and comrade, and a true Irish Hussar who will be sadly missed.
