Born in Tilbury, Essex, on the 18th of July 1926 Denis was enlisted into the Army on the 1st of February 1945.
His initial training was with the 59th PTC (Beds and Herts Regiment). He was then allocated to the RAC and was posted to a reconnaissance regiment and consequently to The 4th Hussars who were stationed in Trieste, Italy.
The Regiment returned to the UK in November 1947 and various personnel who had not left to serve overseas were posted to other Regiments. Denis being in this category was posted to The 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards in Palestine.
Denis served with The 4th/7th until he returned to the UK for discharge from the Service in March 1948 having served for just over three years.
He was awarded the 1939/1945 Medal and the General Service Medal with clasp Palestine.
In civilian life, Denis was employed as an Agriculture and Swimming Pool Engineer. He was a Deep Sea Fisherman and a member of the European Fishing Association. He was also a keen gardener and an ardent follower of Arsenal Football Club.
Denis married Joan in July 1950. They had two boys, John and James, two daughters, Carol and Juliet, and ten grandchildren.
He died of lung cancer on the 4th of August 2009, after a short illness.
