Bertie died on 2 March 2011, aged 74 years.
His School was Downside.
He served as a soldier with The 5th Inniskilling Dragoon Guards and at Mons Officer Cadet School from 1 September 1955 until 25 May 1956, when he was commissioned.
He joined The 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars in Lüneburg on 12 June 1956.
He served in Recce Troop, leaving on release on 23 June 1957.
He joined the A.E.R. and was promoted to Lieutenant on 12 January 1958.
