Alan died on 27 November 2009, aged 85.

He enlisted on 19 August 1943 and attended OCTU at Sandhurst until 17 June 1944.

He was commissioned on 18 June 1944 and posted to 57 Training Regiment RAC. During this time he did a Messing Officer’s course and a Photographic Reading course.

He was posted to The 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars on 29 April 1945 who were then at Elstorf, West of Hamburg. Just prior to this he was hospitalised for two weeks and again for a few days in September 1945. At the end of the war the Regiment was stationed at Itzehoe.

It was from her they moved to Berlin to take part in The Victory Parade on 21 July 1945. Whilst stationed in Lingen from July 1946 until July 1947, he was able, with other officers, to race at Hannover, Hamburg, Dortmund and Düsseldorf. This was great fun.

He returned to the UK for discharge on 15 July 1947, being released in October 1947.

Alan was awarded The France and Germany Star and the Defence Medal.

He married Joan on 16 September 1946. He joined the Regimental Association in June 2000.
