George died at his home on the Isle of Man on 16 September 1976, aged 70 years.

He joined the 7th Hussars from Sandhurst in 1924, in 1934 he was A.D.C. to the Governor of Kenya, and in 1935 he founded East African Airways.

He was Major G.S.O.II Armoured Fighting Vehicles in the East African Campaign in 1941.

George designed the Edye Mark I and II Armoured Cars used in this Campaign and became Lt Col G.S.O.I in 1943. He retired in 1956.
