John died on 24 March 1993.

He was commissioned into the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars from the Inns of Court Regiment in January 1940.

He joined ‘A’ Squadron in July 1940 and took part in the Regiment’s first action in the desert against the Italians at Fort Capuzzo. He also took part in the Sidi Rezegh battle.

In April 1941 he was attached to the RAC Brigade Depot. In October 1941 he was the Brigade Intelligence Officer of the 4th Armoured Brigade.

Early in 1942, he became GSO III of the Brigade. He attended the Haifa Staff College in November 1942.

From March 1943 he was Brigade Major of the 23rd Armoured Brigade.

In October 1943 he became GSO 2 (Plans), HQ 8th Army; this post he held for a year. He was then posted to the UK to take up the appointment of GSO I Guards’ Armoured Division.

In March 1944 he became GSO I (Ops) 8th Corps. He remained with them throughout the campaign in North-West Europe.

He was released to the Reserve in March 1946.

He received the OBE in 1945 and was Mentioned in Despatches in 1943 and 1945.

He continuously kept in touch with and supported the Regimental Association and the Regiment.
