Charles Marchant died in Worthing Hospital on 13 September 1986 aged 88.

He joined the 7th Hussars in India in 1917 from the 13th Hussars, serving throughout the Mesopotamia campaign. He transferred to the 3rd Hussars in 1919 serving with them in Turkey, Egypt and India.

He rejoined the 7th Hussars in the UK in 1929 and from there was posted to the Yorkshire Hussars as a Permanent Staff Instructor in 1933.

He was commissioned in Egypt in 1941 and awarded the MBE in 1945.

His son Mr E Marchant served in the 3rd Hussars from 1950-1958 where he was SSM of ‘A’ Squadron.
