George Boon died suddenly on 28th September 1978 aged 65 years.

He joined the 7th Hussars in 1932 and qualified as a Riding Instructor three years later after doing a course at the Equitation School, Weedon.

When the Regiment was mechanised in 1937 he was a Troop Sergeant in “B” Squadron before going to the R.A.C. Depot in Cairo as an Instructor.

In 1945 he was commissioned and transferred to the Royal Army Service Corps where he was in their riding establishment for nearly twenty years and had many Show Jumping successes, and was awarded the M.B.E. in 1960.

When he left the Army four years later he became assistant Clerk of the Course at Epsom, and, later, Clerk of the Course at both Kempton and Doncaster. In these appointments, he was very well thought of and will be greatly missed.
