Major Beckwith died on the 28th of May 1957, whilst serving with the Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry, at Whalley Range, Manchester.

Record of Service: He joined the 7th Hussars in 1926. Transferred to 3rd Hussars in India, in 1928, and served with the Regiment until 1943. when he was R.S.M. and left for a Commission.

He served in the Middle East and Italy until the end of the war. For a while, he was second-in-command of Prisoners-of-War-Camps at home.

After the war, he served as Q.M., H.Q. B.T.E., from 1947 to 1950. Q.M. Fife and Forfar Yeomanry, from 1950 to 1953 and The Yorkshire Yeomanry from 1953 to 1957, and finally The Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry, 1957 to 1958, until his death while training with his Regiment at Bury St. Edmunds.
