Jack died at the end of 1985 in Australia.

He joined the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars in Aldershot in 1932. This was quite an occasion for him as on the same day his younger brother also joined the 8th as a Bandboy; in addition, his father, Sgt Bob Chapman, was at this time still serving.

By the outbreak of War Jack was a Sergeant. He was commissioned in July 1942 and served as a Troop Leader in the Western Desert from the Alam Haifa battle onwards.

He finished the war as a Major, retiring in February 1946.

He then worked for the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough, but after a few years emigrated to Australia.
