Major ‘Jock’ Ferrier joined the 4th Queen’s Own Hussars from SADE in mid-1948 just prior to the departure to Malaya.

He served in ‘A’ Squadron as a Troop Sergeant and was mentioned in dispatches in October 1950. He was promoted SQMS of ‘D’ Squadron and later, in Germany, to SSM of ‘C’ Squadron.
In 1955 he was appointed RQMS in which appointment he continued until he was granted a Short Service Commission as Lt (QM) and posted to the North Irish Horse. Later he returned to the Regiment as Tech (QM) and finally, as Quartermaster.
On retirement the became OC Home Headquarters and has held that appointment and that of Secretary to the Regimental Association since 1975. During these ten years his work at Home Headquarters has been outstanding in every way.
Always cheerful and efficient, with a welcoming smile for us all at the various functions (including Committee Meetings) which he has so meticulously organised — the Old Comrades’ Reunion Dinner, the Parade in Hyde Park, the move to Albany Street and the setting up of the new Home Headquarters, which entailed a great deal of hard work, imagination and enthusiasm.
