The death occurred on Saturday, February 27th, 1960, of Mr Henry John Curtis, of 7 Somerville Road, Wells, aged 72.

A native of Bath, Henry Curtis had a distinguished Army record. He joined the 3rd King’s Own Hussars in 1909 and served throughout the First World War.

For gallantry at the Retreat from Mons, Mr Curtis was awarded the Military Medal and the Croix de Guerre. He was the holder of six Army decorations.
