Doug died on 1 February 1995.
Doug joined the 3rd King’s Own Hussars in January 1937. In January 1938, in company with other 3rd Hussars, he joined the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars who at that time was at Abbassia Barracks, Cairo.
He took part in the desert campaigns with the 8th Hussars until being posted to the 2nd Derbyshire Yeomanry in June 1943. He left the Army in 1948.
He kept in touch with the Regimental Association, and in particular with three old chums – Ginger Joines, Reg Scrugham and Tex Newman.
