Geoff died on 20 July 2004, aged 81.

He enlisted at Worcester on 4 February 1943, joining the 61st Training Regiment RAC on St Patrick’s Day 1943.

Shortly afterwards he joined the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars on their return from the Middle East at West Tofts Camp near Thetford, Norfolk. The time here was spent on familiarisation with the new equipment.

In May 1944 the Regiment moved to Bognor in preparation for the invasion of Europe. Geoff took part in the campaigns through to Berlin, mainly with RHQ Troop.

He took his discharge on 26 August 1947 and joined the Staffordshire Yeomanry on the Reserve.

In October 1953 he rejoined the Army – not the cavalry but the Royal Army Pay Corps. He soldiered on with them until 22 March 1971, when he took his final discharge. During his time with the Pay Corps, he served in the Far East, Aden, Malta, BAOR, Sharjah and London District.

He was a loyal member of the Regimental Association from 1989.
