Jack died on 22nd November 1987.

He joined the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment in December 1946, and in August 1948 transferred to the 4th Queen’s Own Hussars.

He sailed with the Regiment to Malaya on the Dilwara.

Jack had a lively, rumbustious personality and if Jack was in the vicinity, people knew it.

He stayed with the Regiment, as a Gunnery Instructor and Troop Sergeant, until just prior to amalgamation, when he was posted to the Mons Officer Cadet School at Aldershot.

He rejoined the Regiment, now The Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars, as ‘A’ Squadron Troop Sergeant in July 1961, whilst they were at Tidworth, preparing for the move to Aden in October.

He remained with A Squadron on the Regiment’s move to Malaya in October 1962.

He then did a tour with the North Irish Horse returning briefly to Regimental Duty in Wolfenbuttel, before going to the UK to finish his 22 years’ service.

We did not see much of Jack after that, but he will long be remembered by those who served with him.
