John ‘Jock’ McKinlay was born in Glasgow in 1931 and died after a long illness in July 2002.

After training, he joined The 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars and served as a clarinet and saxophone player with the Regimental Band.

Posted to Lüneburg in 1952, he served with the 8th Hussars until amalgamation when he was posted to the Junior Leaders Regiment at Bovington as a sergeant instructor of Junior Bandsmen. He remained there until being medically discharged in 1966.

Jock married his first wife Jean in 1956 and they had one daughter, Kathleen. Sadly, Jean died in 1996.

In July 2001 Jock married again to Jill, but he passed away after less than a year of marriage.
