Bob died on 2 October 1987.

He joined the 4th Hussars in February 1934 when they were at Colchester.

In January 1936 he was posted to the 3rd Queen’s Own Hussars, and a year later joined the 8th KRI Hussars in Cairo.

He took part in the Desert campaigns, until being taken Prisoner of War at Alamein in June 1942.

He was attached to the Northants Yeomanry from 1947 until rejoining the 8th Hussars in Luneburg in 1952, remaining with them until demob in March 1958.

He was a member of Arthur Wright’s Tech staff.

Bob was a soldier of the old school, who lived life to the full and was a prominent member of that very happy 8th Hussars’ Sergeants’ Mess in Luneburg.

Like so many old friends, once he left the Regiment we heard nothing of him for many years.

He turned up again and visited Home Headquarters in 1986. He also made contact with Reg Scrugham at about the same time, but then dropped out of the system again.
