The death of Sgt Ray Sparrow, better known as ‘Spagger’, followed a series of illnesses at his home town of Lower Cam, Gloucestershire.

Ray enlisted on 4 April into the General Service Corps and transferred to the 59 Training Regiment RAC on 28 June 1945.

He was then posted to the 4th Queen’s Own Hussars at Villa Opicina, Trieste, Northern Italy on 19 April 1946.

Afterwards, he served through Lubeck (Germany), Colchester, Malaya and Tidworth, where Ray was released to the Army Reserve on 26 December 1952.
