Ralph died on 14 October 1997, aged 70.

He enlisted in April 1945 into the General Service Corps. He transferred to the Royal Armoured Corps in August and did his initial training with the 57 Training Regiment.

In April 1946 he joined the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars at Itzehoe, being employed in the orderly room. He moved with the Regiment to Lingen in July, being promoted to Corporal in November 1947.

In February 1948 he moved with the rest of the Regiment to Leicester East Airfield. He was a founder member when the Corporals’ Mess was reformed there.

In March 1950 he was posted to the 14th/20th King’s Royal Hussars and subsequently to HQ BAOR and HQ 1 (BR) Corps where, in July 1951, he was promoted to Sergeant.

He took his release in January 1953 and in civilian life, became a design engineer.
