Thomas, who was born on 2 March 1923 and whose origins were at Chesterfield, died on 11 October 1999.
He joined the Royal Armoured Corps on 2 July 1942.
After training as a driver/operator with The 57th Regiment RAC he was posted to the 4th Hussars in 1943 when the Regiment had been reformed after its capture in Greece and was then in the Western Desert.
He remained with the Regiment until the completion of his service on 18 May 1947.
