Alf died on 20 February 1988.

He joined the Army as a Sapper in 1932 but was very quickly claimed by his elder brother Fred.

In November, he joined SSM Dicky Bird’s Squadron. He served with the 4th Hussars in Colchester and Aldershot where he took part in the mechanisation of the Regiment.

He left the Regiment for the Reserve in June 1938.

He was called back for the War and Served in the Desert, Greece and Italy.

He left the Regiment in 1946, having opted for civilian life.

He was a loyal and active member of the Regimental Association, remaining a keen supporter until his death.
