‘Dutchy’ died on 1 January 1999, aged 70.

He enlisted at Southampton in August 1946, initially joining the General Service Corps.

In November 1946 he transferred to the RAC and joined the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars, then stationed at Lingen. While there he qualified as a gunner mech. He returned with the Regiment to the UK to Leicester East Airfield in February 1948.

In August he, together with many other 8th Hussars transferred to the 4th Queen’s Own Hussars who were being brought up to strength prior to going to Malaya.

Dutchy served in Malaya mostly with HQ Squadron, up to January 1951 when he returned to the UK under the Python scheme. Following leave, he was posted to HQ Squadron 20 Arm Bde where he stayed until his discharge to the Reserve in 1952.

He married on 17 November 1951 and we extend our sincere condolences to his widow Sheila who resides in a suburb of Bournemouth.
