Donald, who died on 8 April 1994, joined the 3rd King’s Own Hussars in June 1940 from the RTR.

He sailed with the Regiment to Egypt in August 1940 via the Cape of Good Hope. He took part in the desert campaigns and was captured at Agedabia.

He was medically discharged and released from the prisoner-of-war camp in October 1945.

In civilian life, he became a long-distance lorry driver and in 1976, due to failing eyesight, he became a swimming pool attendant and later supervisor. In his youth, he played rugby for Castleford,
