Henry died on the 13th of October 2012 aged 89 years.

Henry Cotterill was born in Accrington Lancashire on the 19th of May 1923. He joined the Royal Navy on the 25th November 1942 aged 19 years and served until 3rd May 1946.

During his Naval service, he was awarded the 1939/45 Star, Atlantic Star and 1939/45 War Medal.

Henry volunteered for the Army in August 1947 and joined 30th PTC followed by posting to the Royal Armoured Corps and subsequently to the 14/20 Hussars where he trained as a driver.

He joined the 4th Queen’s Own Hussars in early 1948 and sailed with the Regiment for the Far East (Malaya) in August 1948 aboard the HMT Dilwara.

Henry served in ‘A’ Squadron in Malaya for a year followed by the Squadron posting to Hong Kong for seven months then back to Malaya in February 1951 until the Regiment returned home to Tidworth in December 1951.

He was awarded the GSM Malaya with Clasp.

He married Kathleen Green on the 31st of January 1953 and was discharged from the Army on the 22nd of February 1953.
