He trained with the 68 Training Regiment RAC and qualified as a CVR BIV and was posted to the 4th Queen’s Own Hussars as a driver.

In June 1953 he was posted to HQ 56 (Lon) Armd Div as a staff car driver. It was during this time living in London that he met his future wife Mary in 1953 on a blind date at the Hammersmith Palais and they were married on 15 October 1955.

Ronald was admitted to the hospital in June 1954 suffering from a gastric ulcer and was eventually discharged as medically unfit for further service with a disability pension on 25 November 1954.

He lived in London for a while and worked in a Co-operative store. Eventually, he and Mary moved to Sheerness in Kent where he worked in a glassworks and retired as a foreman when the works closed down.

In retirement, Ronald’s hobby was collecting and mending old clocks which were placed around the house. He liked repairing old cars and spending time with his grandchildren and was a devoted family man.

He died on 25 August 2007 aged 73.
