It is with the deepest regret that we have to announce the death of Tpr Stephen May who was fatally injured in a motorcycle accident near East Knoyle on 22nd September 1974.

May, who was only 17 years old, joined the Regiment on 10th September 1974 directly from boys’ service with the Junior Leaders Regiment R.A.C. and was posted to ‘B’ Squadron at Warminster where he joined 4th Troop.

Although only with ‘B’ Squadron for a few days, he had settled down extremely well, was a popular member of his troop and was enjoying himself in his chosen career. He was cremated at Worthing Crematorium, the bearer party being provided by members of his troop and other Junior Leaders in ‘B’ Squadron who had joined the Regiment at the same time as May.

We extend our deepest sympathy in their tragic loss not only to his family but also to his fiancee whom he was on his way to visit at the time of his death.
