The squadron occupied the sunken road west of the wood. Patrols put out of Gauche Wood again came under heavy MG fire. Major Ryder was killed and 16 OR’s killed and wounded.”

Lt WP ClowesLt WP Clowes 30 Mar 18 Killed in action “… About 3pm the 15th Hussars asked for support. The 8 Hussars were ordered up in support, they had to cross about 300 yards of open ground swept by machine gun fire and heavy shell fire. Lt WP Clowes led the 8th Hussars and with 28 men reached the 15th Hussars. Lt Clowes was shot just as he was entering the 15th Hussars trench. Lt Clowes and 10 men were killed.”
