During the 4th Hussars, nine-year stay in India one of the Regiment’s finest horsemen John ‘Scotty’ Scott Cockburn performed unforgettable deeds at pig-sticking together with his famous horse Carclew.

Scotty said of Carclew that “Carclew would follow him (a boar) as a greyhound will a hare‘ also describing his trusty steed as a ‘genius‘.

Together they won the coveted Kadir Cup three times in 1924, 1925 and 1927.

Brigadier Scott-Cockburn also went on to deputise as Colonel of the Regiment from 1951 to 1958.
