Winston Churchill was commissioned into the 4th Hussars in the February of 18955 and served with them for four years.

He spent a year in barracks at Aldershot as a Recruit Officer and the final three in India where he played for the Regimental polo team in the Inter-Regimental Tournament of 1899.

He was fortunate enough to score three goals including the winning goal of the final.

He never broke his connection with the 4th Hussars and was appointed Colonel from 1941 until his death in 1965.
