General Pat commanded The Queen’s Own Hussars from 1963 to 1965 and was Colonel of the Regiment from 1969 to 1975.

His final military appointment was as Vice Chief of the General Staff.

He served with the 7th Hussars during the Italy campaign including the battles of Ancona and the Rimini Line.

He was awarded the Virtuti Militari, the highest Polish medal for valour.

He was regarded by many as the outstanding Queen’s Own Hussar of his generation.
