He was the Colonel of The 8th Dragoons ( St George’s Dragoons) from 1740-1755.

Richard St George entered the Army on 10 May 1689 as an Ensign in a Regiment of Foot, serving under the Duke of Marlborough.

He was appointed Lieutenant Colonel in the 6th Dragoon guards until George II advanced him to Colonel of the 20th Foot after which he was appointed Colonel of The 8th Dragoons in May 1740.

Seven years later he reached the rank of Lieutenant General.

Richard St George died on 12 January 1755 after 65 years of service.
