Sgt Harrison enlisted in July 1940 in the 7th Bn. The Suffolk Regiment which converted to the 142nd Regiment Royal Armoured Corps in October 1941.
He served with this unit in North Africa and Italy and on its being disbanded in December 1944 he joined the 3rd King’s Own Hussars.
He saw service with the 3rd in Syria, Lebanon, and Germany and gained a Mention in Dispatches for his services in Palestine.
He transferred to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (R.E.M.E.) in 1952 where he was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal and the 1953 Coronation Medal whilst being promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He remained with the Light Aid Detachment (L.A.D.) whose task it was to service and repair the tanks and other vehicles of the Regiment.
